Did my mom do the right thing? There's always interesting movies with really cool titles on the Lifetime channel on TV, so this morning I TiVoed one called "Flirting With Danger". Then I went downstairs to make one of those Kraft Mac&Cheese dinners. Then I heard my mother screaming from upstairs so I ran upstairs to see what had happened. Turns out, on the screen were these two people were making out and taking off their clothes and basically engaging in "foreplay".
In deeper detail, all the lights were turned off, the guy and girl were on the bed, he was sliding her pantyhose off her legs, and she was unbuttoning his shirt. Then he ripped off her shirt to reveal a cheetah-spotted bra and began kissing her stomach.
I am 15 years old and a freshman in high school. I'm from a pretty strict Hindu family and my mother is more of the conservative type.
She is strongly against consumption of meat and alcohol, and does not believe in violence. But above all that, she is an EXTREMIST when it comes to casual/pre-marital sex.
Once, my mom and I were watching the Sound of Music, which is rated G, and the silhouettes of the two main characters were kissing in the courtyard beneath the stars and my mother demanded that it was "inappropriate" and "unnecessary" and made me fast-forward that part.
So anyways, when I had come upstairs, the scene in Flirting With Danger was on and my mother began SHREIKING at me and asking why I was watching "pornography". I tried to calmly explain to her that the movie was PG-13, and that I was 15. She completely ignored my attempts to calm her down and explain that I wasn't in the room when it was on, and if I was, then I would have fast-forwarded through that part. She started screaming that the "Western culture is out of hand, and that they don't know right from wrong" and that the media is "exposing guyren to porn".
I tried to tell her that we had recently watched the movie version of Romeo and Juliet, and there is a similar scene in that movie that the teacher hadn't even bothered to fast-forward. A couple months back, we had also watched a movie in health class called "The Party Never Stops" pertaining to a college freshman who is introduced to the world of binge drinking at parties and casual sex. There had been a sex scene and partial nudity in that movie as well.
I've been trying to tell my mother that we can't avoid this kind of stuff, as it is everywhere. I tried to explain that she can't hide this stuff from me forever, I have to grow up sometime.
It almost seemed funny to me how serious she was getting about this because I watch rated R movies for free on the internet behind her back.Even Indian movies have this sort of content.
So what should I do and what should I tell her?
How do I calm her down and allow her to let me watch PG-13 movies without freaking out everytime two people merely kiss? | She's your mother and has total control until you are of age. As you are living in her house, you need to follow her rules that she sets. If you really want to watch movies that might have expos-ion, then just do it on the internet. OR before you watch a movie, check it with her. I understand how your older, and more mature; try to tell her that, like you've been. Try to get her to come around and see your point of view. BUT don't argue, and don't yell. Calmly say it with no attitude or grudge, other wise you'd be giving her another thing to yell at you for. Watch the movies at friends houses. Or you could always play the innocent girl when anything sexual happens, like go ew thats gross! And then fast foward. I know you don't want to, and you would like to watch the movies as it is, without her freaking but like i said until your of age, she sets the rules.
Also I've been looking at some of the other comments and they seem a little critizing. Half nude scenes are not porn, and you weren't watching them in that sense. I understand what your saying...
As your Mother is very into her heritage, and culture and beliefs you need to respect hers too. Then she can respect your own. A couple more years sweetie then your out!
Another quick thing is to think about it in your Mother's perspective... What if you walked into a room, and there was half naked people getting it on? I think the first conclusion would also be the guys are watching porn. EVEN If that's not the case. She wants your well being I can easily see that. | Did my mother do the right thing? | | Uh, well, nice list, it must have taken you a long time to cut and paste that. However, they said oil for energy. Not all oil. So, yeah, that must be disappointing for you. Nice list though. |
