| 2004 Cavalier Auto Tranny Problems? I have a 2004 Cavalier with Auto Tranny. Short Story is the CE Light and the Traction Light came on. Took to garage(not easy) and they said tranny was fried after making seeral checks. Changed the tranny and guess what the same thing happened except the tranny is till OK AS soon as the computer is reset the tranny operates fine then all of a sudden Lights anbd no tranny. WHat is UP? |
| Could be Speed and break sensors that are loose. Then check the tourque converter clutch silonoid... Also map or maf sensor .... You do need to check the engine codes. Most shops cost 75.00 to read. Most Parts stores will check for free. Others charge by the hour..... |

| OLD SCHOOLS pre 1990s will BLOW THE HELL OUT of the rear axle at 55 doing that the new cars will disenguade the trans clutches and will freewheel to a neighborhood coast speed before it will let you go back into drive. but not all Newer car only a few. Damage can still happen. the 2006 ++ cars wont let you go into reverse. |

| I never really thought about it at the time, but when I was young all of my friends were boys, despite there being many girls my age in the neighbourhood. When I got to about 12, I started to realise that I was becoming attracted to some of my friends, and I began to think that I was gay. | you can buy a new rebuilt long block from gm performance and have it delivered for 1,900 I believe, (at least last time I looked, and if you are mechanically inclined, find out who rebuilds trannys in your area and have the 350 rebuilt in yours, go with a heavy duty kit and torque converter, this adds about a 100 bucks to the total cost, getting th 350 rebuilt is relatively inexpensive, if you fine the right shop. you can find rebuild motors and trannys from your local parts store, but you will still have 2,400 or so , and it would be worth spending the six hundred extra for a new longblock from gm, and getting a quality rebuild from a local shop. you don't save money, if the parts last half as long, and my mechanic has had great luck with the gm performance motors. |
| Can you put engine oil in your tranny? in my hot rod mag it had this story of a guy who turbo charged his mustang and his T5 trans started to grind so he put 10W-30 engine oil in it and it stopped grinding and has held up ever since. anyone ever done this? |
| Not a good idea. 10-30w oil is thicker then trans fluid that is why it stopped grinding. |
| Any mechanics who know about old trucks? I live in Des Moines, IA and have had nothing but bad luck with mechanics. I need to have my motor tuned and adjusted just right. Problem is, no shops have any good mechanics. I can elaborate with stories of experience. Please help. I WILL pay the charges but cant ever get the problem fixed. I now get by with some luck by reading manuals and doing it myself. any one? 1971 chevy c-10 350 bored over with a cam and 700r4 tranny. Tranny's tv cable is all messed up and never runs right. |
| Wow,,,,What are you doing with a 700 in a 71 model truck!!??Somebody was wanting better fuel milage I take it.The detent cable can be very hard to get set correctly.The only method that works is trial and error.Adjust it and drive it.If it's not right ,adjust it some more in small increments till it shifts right.Good luck. |
| My car's standard tranny doen's treally want to get up and go until 3rd gear. Whats wrong? In order to get around town without getting run over or plowed, I have to keep a foot on the gas and the clutch just barely disengaged, or engaged, whatever so that I can be ready to do. Otherwise, I'll be hitting the gas and it will get up to 3000 rpm but not want to go anywhere. I took it to a shop that said they specialized in clutches, but they said the clutch was fine and said I had a bad sensor on my accelerator pedal. I think actually, I have two problems. I do think that sensor is bad bec sometiems there is a huge lag btw the depressing oft he pedal and the increase in rpms. Anyway, could it be something simple? The car has 112000 on it and its only 3 years old. yes, I drive al ot. Long story. The standard tranny has never been serviced in any way. Its a 2006 Scion tC. Anyway, once I get through the debacles of 1 adn 2nd gear and into 3rd, the car runs great and I'm zippin all over the place. |

| What's wrong with my tranny? Hi,I went to the tranny shop yesterday and they wanted to charge me 900 dollars. The guy who test drove my car even made up stories about my car. See he misunderstood my explanation about the car. I said that the car wouldn't downshift at will but did when it was really necessary. I also told him that when I would be on the freeway, it seems to be on a lower gear than the highest "sometimes". I never said it went down to first gear( which is a very very noticeable zoom sound when I step on the gas really hard when I'm running 20 or 30mph). What i was saying was that it felt lower than the highest gear at times when i was going 70 miles and above. There was no spike of anykind, just a subtle difference in terms of sound and feel of the drive ( I can tell because it's not always like that, sometimes its normal - relaxed engine sound and good momentum when i let go of the gas- when it's not normal, there is a feeling of pulling back or restrained momentum when i let go of the gas |
| Are you sure it's your tranny? Cars today have engines and trannys that run so in tuned to each other that if one component on the engine (distributor for example) acted funny, it could make your transmission act like it's going bad when that's not the case at all. Even needing a tune up can make your tranny act like that. Your best bet is to take it to another shop. Only take advice from a mechanic who has actually tested (a test drive or on a lift) your car. They can't really know unless they do so. |
